When editing a video, you often only need the video. That is, the sound from the camera is usually replaced by dubbing, or another audio is used altogether. You can turn off the track on which there is audio, hide the audio, or simply delete it immediately to avoid unnecessary actions later.

Sometimes the sound is poorly recorded, and instead of trying to fix it (normalize audio, remove excess noise, etc.), it’s better to just delete the audio.

How to remove only audio from the timeline

There are two ways to remove only audio from the timeline:

Method 1: Unlink video from audio. To do this, select the file and right-click on it. Select Unlink to disconnect the audio from the video. Then select the audio and delete it by pressing the key on the keyboard.

Method 2: Delete only the audio using the alt (windows)/option (mac) button. To delete only the audio in this way, you need to hold down the alt (windows)/option (mac) and select the audio to be deleted. And then press the delete key on the keyboard.

How to hide audio on the timeline

If you don’t need to delete the audio file because it might come in handy someday, you can hide it (disable) and then restore it (enable). To do this, select only audio using the alt (windows)/option (mac) (as in method 2) on the keyboard. And then click on the audio with the right-click button. In the options bar, select Enable. And the audio should be hidden. To restore it, we do everything the same. You can also perform this action with a hotkey.
